A new For Honor story trailer is making the rounds on Thursday, just two days after we learned the game requires an active network connection for single- and multiplayer action, introducing the villainous faction we’ll face-off against during the For Honor campaign. And, from the looks of things, defeating the warlord Apollyon and his (or her) armies isn’t going to be easy.
We’ve known for months that For Honor would include knights, samurais and vikings. But what wasn’t clear was how Ubisoft planned to justify a massive conflict between the three armies. Sure, a fantasy setting clears up any historical inaccuracies. But why would some of the most revered warriors in history, who have apparently learned to coexist peacefully, suddenly turn on another?
According to the new For Honor story trailer, it’s the work of a malevolent outsider that brings war to each faction’s doorstep. Those loyal to the warlord Apollyon launch a series of attacks against the three “good” factions in For Honor, tricking each into thinking one it was betrayed by its allies. From the looks of things, the game’s campaign will deal with the immediate fallout of the apparent betrayal and the violent road back to a peaceful life. And it’s probably safe to assume we’ll be paying Apollyon an angry visit, on his or her home turf, when For Honor debuts next year.
