A pair of newly confirmed Horizon Zero Dawn features are making headlines this week after appearing in a new Guerrilla live stream. Photo Mode probably should have been expected, at least by anyone familiar with the PlayStation 4’s first-party catalog, but the extent to which players can customize Horizon Zero Dawn’s user interface is rarely seen on consoles.
Both features made their public debuts during Guerrilla’s latest Horizon Zero Dawn live stream, a hunting trip broadcast earlier this week, and might be some of the last big reveals we see before the game hits PS4 at the end of the month. To our knowledge, neither has been a major focal point for Guerrilla in previous demonstrations or interviews; however, the studio did confirm we’d see Photo Mode in HZD late last month. Horizon Zero Dawn joins a long list of PS4 releases with a similar feature, including Driveclub, inFamous: Second Son, Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor, The Last Of Us Remastered and Uncharted 4.
Unsurprisingly, given the depth of the feature set, Photo Mode received more screen time during the broadcast. Many who cover the games industry, including DualShockers’ Giuseppe Nelva, captured and republished that 20-plus minute portion of the broadcast as a standalone segment to make it easier for fans who don’t want to watch the whole 84-minute broadcast. Sadly, the UI customization tools weren’t given the same treatment. But PlayStation Lifestyle has a good shot of the menu, which lets players enable/disable everything from the inventory log to enemy awareness icons.
For a closer look at Horizon Zero Dawn’s Photo Mode, take a few minutes to watch the footage captured by Giuseppe or head over to Guerrilla’s Twitch channel to see the entire Horizon Zero Dawn live stream. Then head down to the comments section and let us know if you plan to use either of the new features revealed during this week’s stream.
Horizon Zero Dawn is in development exclusively for PlayStation 4. The game debuts Feb. 28.
