2016 marks a big year for presidential elections in America. We’ve got the eventual showdown between the democratic and republican candidates in real life, and then of course Frank Underwood’s bid in season 4 of House of Cards. I’m not sure which one is more important. Just kidding! I only say that because Netflix is doing a really great job of marketing House of Cards season 4 like an official presidential campaign. There’s even a “Frank Underwood 2016” (or FU2016) website.
During the Golden Globes on Sunday, Netflix decided to air a new “campaign ad," aka season 4 trailer, for Frank Underwood and House of Cards. The message is pretty chilling, as Underwood (Kevin Spacey) makes dark promises because America gets the leader it “deserves.” As he gives his rousing call to action, brief flashbacks cut in between the speech that show Underwood committing nefarious deeds over the course of seasons 1-3. Murder, infidelity, corruption - that’s all just part of the plan. Take a look at Frank Underwood’s speech in the House of Cards season 4 trailer, below:

"They say we get the leaders we deserve," Underwood says before the flashbacks prompt. "Well, here's what I think America deserves: a leader who's not afraid to look you in the eye and tell you what he believes. I believe in putting people first. I believe in putting America back on track, I believe in opening doors. And I'm willing to work with both sides so that we all get what we want.
"I'm a humble man," he continues. "I've never forgotten where I came from. I've taken my licks, but I've never taken your support for granted. I believe in pointing people in the right direction, but in the end, we should all be free to make our own decisions," he continues. "They say we get the leaders we deserve. I think America deserves Frank Underwood. And in your heart, you know I'm right."
Those are some bold promises, President Underwood. Hopefully he can revive not only America, but season 4 of House of Cards as well. Season 3 was pretty rocky, but now that Claire is off on her own, the new season seems to have some ammunition for some fresh conflict.
House of Cards season 4 premieres on Netflix March 4th.
