Doom Eternal has no shortage of amazing guns, from the BFG 9000 to the iconic Double Barrel Shotgun. However, the game doesn’t have the customary pistol, well at least not an accessible one. Every single Doom ever released has had a pistol as the starting weapon, even in 2016’s Doom. That is not the case in Eternal.
Doom Eternal starts you off with a pump-action shotgun. However, you can still use the pistol thanks to unofficial ways. It is hidden deep in the game files and is not accessible by normal means, but it a three-burst fire weapon and uses the same ammunition as the Heavy Cannon. You can watch the pistol in play in the video below, courtesy of IGN.
It seems like Id Software did build a fully functioning pistol, but later decided to remove it from the final version. The developers probably thought that the weapon was not compatible with the fluid dance-like gameplay of Eternal. And honestly, I don’t blame them. I rarely used the pistol in 2016’s Doom anyway. For those who do want to check out the new pistol, you can do so by using console commands and Cheat Engine.
You can watch the above video that shows how to unlock the pistol in the game. Unfortunately, you will have to do these steps every time you open the game. That said, it looks like we will be getting a pistol only walkthrough real soon.
That’s not all, if the fast-paced FPS gameplay wasn’t enough for you then you can also use Cheat Engine to enable third-person mode. And boy does it look good. There are some minor issues, but the cheat/mod is constantly being upgraded, so most of these issues will probably get fixed soon. You can also use Cheat Engine to enable no-clip and no-target mode. Check out this website to know more about these mods.
