It was back in July 2022 when the Community Ambassador Program for Pokémon GO was launched. This was a way for Niantic to provide support to different communities worldwide when hosting local events. This year, the studio is once again opening applications for the program.
New Changes
Before we guide you to the application process, let's take a look first at the changes made for this process. The first is that the minimum size for a community has been lowered to 10 people, which should make it a lot easier to qualify. The second is that those interested in being a Community Ambassador must organize a total of four events in their local community.
All Niantic
However, the best change is the application now processed exclusively by Niantic. This means that there's no longer a need to consult, visit, or use external resources or websites.
Application Process
Before we go over the steps, it's important to know that you have to be in these regions to join the program:
- Americas
- Europe
- Middle East
- Africa
- Australia
- New Zealand
Now we have that out of the way, the first thing you need to do is fill up the application form here. Niantic is going to conduct an initial review of the application after which you'll be invited to join other applicants for the vetting process.
Once you've been added to this group, you have to run at least four community events. It's important to take photos during these events since you'll have to submit them as part of your application.
After those four events are done, Niantic will conduct a final background check and safety check of the community.
Must-Have Qualities of an Ambassador
These are the qualities that Niantic is looking for an ambassador:
- Diversity
- Pokémon GO trainers include people of many nationalities, identities, and ethnicities.
- This is the same for Community Ambassadors.
- Professionalism and quality of character
- A Community Ambassador is someone recognized by Niantic, so they should always treat other people with respect, honesty, and kindness.
- Positivity
- One of the ways a community grows is based on the image of the leader.
- The best communities are built by creating and highlighting the positive rather than focusing on the negative.
- Opportunities for critical feedback should be treated with respect and never with cruelty or anger.
- Safety
- It's important to make sure that communities and spaces they play in are secure.
- Integrity
- Communities should avoid cheating of all forms.
