At long last, Hyper Light Drifter has a release date, more than two and a half years after the 2D action RPG made its Kickstarter debut. As if that weren’t enough, PC and Mac gamers should be pleased to hear they’re less than two weeks away from getting their hands on the game.
The third and final trailer for Hyper Light Drifter debuted on Tuesday morning, bringing with it the official release date for the game’s Windows and OS X ports. According to Heart Machine, the game’s developer, PC and Mac owners will be able to purchase/download Hyper Light Drifter on March 31. A corresponding update on the game’s Kickstarter page confirms the studio still hopes to release the Linux version alongside the Windows/OS X builds; however, bugs in the final build of the game may force the studio to delay Hyper Light Drifter’s Linux debut.
Heart Machine also announced that the Hyper Light Drifter page is finally live on Steam. You can’t pre-order the game but the listing does include a countdown timer that will let you know exactly when HLD goes live in your region. Sadly, there’s no word on exactly when PlayStation 4, PS Vita and Wii U owners will get to join in on the fun. This week’s trailer confirms the studio still plans to release console versions in 2016; however, there’s no timeline for any of the three platforms.
