Sony’s PlayStation Showcase that took place yesterday might not have been its best event. However, it did have some major announcements. The publishing giant revealed tons of upcoming games, two of which are being developed by Insomniac Games. Both are exclusive to PlayStation 5, so don't expect them on the last-gen console.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2
The first one is Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, the sequel to the critically acclaimed Spider-Man (2018). The game will be released sometime in 2023. However, I won’t be surprised if it gets delayed. It will continue the story of the original game and the spin-off Miles Morales. The main antagonist, Venom, was also revealed. Spider-Man 2 might have both Peter Parker and Miles Morales, but it’s not a co-op game. It will be a single-player experience just like its predecessor.
Marvel’s Wolverine
Now, this is a game nobody expected. Marvel’s Wolverine is in early development and will be released after Spider-Man 2. So don’t expect it to come out before 2024. Not much is known about the game, but the developer claims that it will have an “emotional narrative and cutting-edge gameplay.”
You can read more about both games from the official blog post.
About the Developer
Sony has several critically acclaimed development studios. These include Naughty Dog, Santa Monica Studios, Sucker Punch Studios, and Guerrilla Games. Insomniac Games is also one of those and is known for making high-quality AAA games. Not only do they make amazing games, but they make a lot.
Within just a couple of years, Insomniac Games has released multiple games. They released Marvel’s Spider-Man in 2018, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales in 2020, and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart in 2021. Plus, the Spider-Man Remastered in 2020. That’s a lot of games for a studio that has fewer than 300 employees.
