While we anticipate the iPhone 5SE slated to unveil at the upcoming Apple Event in March, speculators are already looking to the future. The iPhone 7 isn’t expected until Fall 2016, but there has been a whirlwind of recent rumors suggesting the iPhone 7 will get a bucket full of new features. From hybrid Apple EarPods to a DSLR-quality dual lens camera, the iPhone 7 rumors will not slow down until Tim Cook makes it official. So for now, we’re left with loads of speculation.
The most recent rumors come from Japanese blog Mac Otakara . The site debunks claims that Apple’s next generation iPhone will feature a waterproof casing made of new composite materials. Instead, Apple will stick with the same water resistant sealing technology as the iPhone 6s. The report also suggests the iPhone 7 will be the same height and weight as the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus. As KGI analyst Ming-Chi Kuo’s predicted, Mac Otakara believes the iPhone 7’s screen will be slimmer due to new LCD technology, but Apple will not adopt OLED until the iPhone 8. The lack of headphone jack would slim down the width of the device, but Mac Otakara reports Apple will fill that space with a second stereo quality speaker and a thinner lightning port design.
The Japanese tech blog also reiterated rumors that the iPhone 7 will not have a camera bump. The report also says the iPhone 7 will feature dual lens camera technology, the same as Kuo has predicted in the past. However, new rumors claim just the iPhone 7 Plus will get the upgraded DSLR-like lens technology. According to Chinese site MyDrivers , Apple will offer the dual-lens as an option for the iPhone 7 Plus and call that version the iPhone ‘Pro’ instead. That seems a little far fetched for Apple’s taste, but anything can happen.
The most interesting rumors revolve around the lack of headphone jack. How will Apple compensate? The most recent hint is a patent that describes hybrid EarPod headphones. The “detachable wireless listening device” that works with or without a cord attached. Apple’s design features a magnetic cord connection between the wireless headphones and its cord attachment, which is necessary for charging purposes. The report does not specify what type of power cable, traditional 3.5mm jack or lightning port, will connect to the iPhone. Previous headphone rumors suggested a complete wireless bluetooth EarPod redesign , which would come with a lightning adapter equipped with a 3.5 mm headphone jack attachment.
Wireless charging technology, longer battery life, better wi-fi, and more storage are among some of the many other feature upgrades predicted for the iPhone 7. Apple will officially announce the 4-inch iPhone 5SE during the week of March 21st. None of the features above are expected to make it to the next-generation iPhone 5c.
