The renowned Apple tipster Ming-Chi Kuo of KGI Securities claimed that OLED on iPhone wouldn't happen until 2019, but new reports suggest that the Cupertino tech company is moving the clock forward to bring AMOLED to iPhone in 2017.
Via DigiTimes, the rumored iPhone 8 will allegedly feature an all-glass body with a curved display aspect, which could only mean that Apple is planning to apply flexible AMOLED technology. Reports also claim more than100 million AMOLED screens will be supplied thanks to a deal with Samsung.
Nine-figures is a massive amount, but don't expect Samsung to supply Apple with the whole thing all at once – the contract is said to last three years and Samsung will initially deliver 40 million AMOLED screens for the 2017 iPhone 8 Plus, er, Pro. and the delivery will continue to grow to 80 million units in 2018 and 120 million units in 2019.
Samsung isn't the only OLED display maker rumored to make a deal with Apple – Sharp, JDI, AUO and LG are said to supply screens as well, so don't expect Samsung to be Apple's sole screen supplier. Stay tuned as we learn more about Apple's future flexible AMOLED iPhone.
