‘Iron Fist’ Netflix Series Spoilers: Marvel Adds Harold Meachum To The Cast

Netflix’s final Marvel installment before The Defenders series, Iron Fist, just found another cast member in Lord of the Rings actor David Wenham. Like Iron Fist’ s last two cast announcements, the press release was paired with a hint. This time, it’s an image of the New York Bulletin ’s front page headline, “Harold Meachum Gravely Ill,” crumpled up on the sidewalk.

Now a ruthless corporate leader, Harold Meachum was partners with Wendell and Heather Rand at the time of their death. Captioned,“Who is truly loyal?,” the image further hints at the fact Iron Fist will have to decide Harold Meachum’s fate if the series is at all similar to the comics. ‘Gravely ill’ could suggest a different storyline than we are familiar with. After Meachum lets Wendell fall to his death, he gets lost near K'un-Lun and nearly freezes to death. Both of his legs had to be amputated due to frostbite. It’s unclear how, or if, this will play out in the series.

Executive Producer Scott Buck says Meachum’s character is complex, and will keep fans off balance all season.

“David is capable of displaying raw, visceral strength as well as extremely keen intelligence,” the showrunner said.

Marvel’s Jeph Loeb added that David Wenham brings a “vulnerability” and “danger” to his roles.

“This key quality creates a gravitas our series requires as Danny unravels the secrets behind Rand Enterprises,” Loeb said.

According to MCU Exchange , Joy (Harold’s daughter) and Ward Meachum (Harold’s brother) will also join the cast. Joy’s character has already been hinted at in Finn Jones’ casting announcement , which also came with a cryptic image. A notepad labeled to Joy Meachum with caption “Some secrets can’t be buried,” backs up these casting rumors.

Game of Thrones actress Jessica Henwick has also been officially cast as Colleen Wing. According to Marvel, Colleen Wing is a martial arts expert running her own dojo. She’ll be an invaluable ally to Danny Rand as he returns to his life in New York from after leaving K’un-L’un. In the Comics, Colleen was one of Danny Rand’s first friends upon his return. In fact, her father Professor Lee Wing, predicted Iron Fist’s return and sent Colleen to meet him immediately.

Iron Fist is looking for actors to play Shang-Chi and Steel Serpent, according to casting calls reported by MCU Exchange. Steel Serpent, Joy, and Ward used to all work together to seek revenge on Iron Fist, who they (falsley) believe killed Harold.

Netflix hasn’t set a release date for Iron Fist , but the series is expected in 2017,
