When "Marvel Rivals" was released last year, it became an instant hit among gamers, which makes it one of the most successful arena-shooter games in history. So far, however, DC has not yet come up with a game that can counter.
DC Comics' new cinematic universe boss, James Gunn, has expressed that he is open should Warner Bros. decide to develop a game that is similar to the action shooter.
It should be noted that the company has not revealed that it has plans to make its own version of "Marvel Rivals."
James Gunn Is Open to a 'Marvel Rivals'-like Game for DC
ComicBook Gaming reported that a recent DC Studios event had significant bombs dropped by its new boss, James Gunn, after appearing on stage to talk about the franchise's future plans. One of the questions directed at Gunn is if the public can expect or see a possible DC version of the hit arena-based shooter game "Marvel Rivals."
The famed director and showrunner said, "Totally possible, I'd be open to it," which has fed the excitement of many DC fans who want more from the franchise through both its cinematic universe and video games.
Given that Gunn is open to having a game of this nature, this opens up possibilities that DC and Warner Bros. can potentially explore in the future
WB Games, DC: No Plans Revealed Yet For This Game
However, fans should hold their horses for the time being. Again, there are still no plans or developments regarding any arena-based action shooter game from WB Games. Moreover, ComicBook Gaming claimed that if Warner Bros. decides to proceed with a game like this, it may take them years before it can be shared with the public.
It is also important to note that the DC franchise and Warner Bros. Games are still reeling from the less-than-stellar performance of last year's game with Rocksteady Studios, "Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League."
The Success of 'Marvel Rivals' in the Industry
On the other hand, Marvel Entertainment and NetEase Games are currently reaping the fruits of their labor from the success that "Marvel Rivals" saw since its release. The free-to-play game has made a significant impact in the arena-shooter genre as many gamers have said that it is better than other competitors.
NetEase Games has likewise made sure to add new content and experiences in each update, with its player base still growing and reviews remaining positive almost three months in.
