Gotham City has a new Police Commissioner: J.K. Simmons. According to The Hollywood Reporter , The Whiplash Oscar winner will play Commissioner James Gordon in the upcoming DC Comics Justice League movie, set to begin filming in mid-April. Simmons will join Justice League members Batman (Ben Affleck), Superman (Henry Cavill), Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot), Aquaman (Jason Momoa), The Flash (Ezra Miller) and Cyborg (Ray Fisher) on the big screen Nov. 17, 2017.
Simmons also played ex-Mayor and New York City Daily Bugle editor J. Jonah Jameson in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy. His role in Justice League means he’s most likely not going to play Jameson in Sony and Marvel’s planned Spider-Man reboot starring Zendaya and Tom Holland expected in Summer 2017.
The Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice production team is sticking together for Justice League. Zack Snyder will direct Chris Terrio’s two-part screenplay. Part 2 is expected in June 2019. Charles Roven and Deborah Snyder will co-produce. You’ll see Affleck and Simmons in theaters together before Justice League premieres, in the upcoming action thriller The Accountant, which releases Oct. 7, 2016.
We’ll have to wait until March 25 to see DC’s next film, Dawn of Justice, for hints about Justice League’s plot. Interestingly enough, fans are predicting Jim Gordon is dead in the Dawn of Justice storyline. Since Bruce Wayne was in Metropolis when General Zod and Superman’s battle decimated the city, Gordon may have been too and his death could be part of the reason Batman is so pissed off in the wake of Man of Steel.
