Building toy K’NEX has used its series of gears, connectors and rods to make impressive things like roller coasters, cars and more in the past. Now, the toy brand is looking to take on Nerf with buildable dart blasters.
The K’NEX K-Force line of toys allows for builders to use the included specialized parts to create their very own blasters. Using three different firing methods, the blasters come in a range of sizes and price points.
The high-end entry in the K-Force line is the Flash Fire motorized blaster set. This set comes with a 10 dart clip, a motor, a hand grip and 10 foam darts along with a host of K’NEX building pieces. The box includes instructions for seven different blasters to be built, but more can be made if you make the design yourself.
The Flash Fire motorized blaster will be selling for $49.99 – a K’NEX representative at the TTPM Holiday Showcase event in NYC said it would be available by this Christmas.
Other sets in the K-Force line will be priced less and have different firing mechanisms. Simple pull-back blasters will start at $14.99 and rotating-shot action blasters will go for $39.99.
As one would hope, the K-Force line can all be mixed and matched as well. “You can buy the entire line and make a huge blaster,” the representative said. “The limit is really your whole imagination.”
If you or the person you want to get a K-Force set for is already a big Nerf fan, don’t worry. The foam darts used with the K-Force blasters can be mixed and matched with any darts used for Nerf blasters. No need to have to stock up on two different kinds of foam and rubber tubes.
While we only had the opportunity to use the Flash Fire kit, the blaster felt nice and sturdy in our hands. The motorized firing mechanism also gave the darts some good power, with the darts shooting out at a decent speed and force. These home-made blasters should hold up against anything Nerf has to offer, while offering the added benefit of being customizable.
