The Last Guardian, the next project from Shadow of the Colossus creator Fumito Ueda, will be releasing by the end of the year. This news comes from an interview with Philippe Cardon from French outlet Challenges. Cardon is the Vice President at Sony Interactive Entertainment Europe.
"This is our biggest release of the year with Gran Turismo and the return of The Last Guardian," Cardon told Challenges. "And of course, the PlayStation VR arrives."
The Last Guardian has been in development for years, with fans wondering if it was even still getting worked on. At one point, Sony even had a hiccup with the trademark filings, temporarily losing them before getting a renewal.
The Last Guardian next appeared at E3 2015 with the trailer seen above. The trailer concluded with the original '2016' release date. Seeing as how development could be described as "rocky at best," fans haven't been holding their breath that this would come to be true. Seeing a new confirmation that this year will be the year for The Last Guardian is great to see.
So when will The Last Guardian actually get released? Seeing as how no date has been set yet, it's safe to assume we'll be seeing a release in the second half of the year. The Last Guardian will likely get the Holiday 2016 release sometime around October/November. A proper release date will likely come alongside a new trailer at Sony's E3 press conference this year. This is all a guess based on gaming trends though, so don't take any of it as truth.
