The Last of Us fans have been waiting for more information about the upcoming multiplayer game for over two years. All they have gotten till now is one concept art at Summer Game Fest 2022.
Thanks to a recent blog by the developer, we now know when we can expect more. Details about the MP game will be revealed at the series’ 10th anniversary, which is in June. The original TLOU, not the remaster, was released on PlayStation 3 on June 14, 2013. The developer did reveal the second concept art of the game recently, and TLOU2 players will be familiar with the place.
The reveal in 2023 doesn’t guarantee a release in the same year. Given how long games take to develop nowadays, the MP title can easily be a next year's game. Meanwhile, the blog also mentioned that there will be “some fun surprises for you along the way.” We won’t know what they mean by it, but I am hoping for a proper port of TLOU Part 2 for PS5 and PC.
Sales Figure Updated
The same blog also revealed the updated sales figure of the entire The Last of Us franchise. As of December 2022, the series has sold more than 37 million copies. There is a good chance that the first TLOU game makes up most of the sales as it was released three times for three different PlayStation consoles. TLOU Part 2 isn’t low on sales either. In June 2022, Neil Druckmann confirmed that the sequel sold more than 10 million copies. The current number for Part 2 should be higher by now.
Future Sales Hike
In a few weeks, sales of both games should skyrocket as The Last of Us Show will premiere on HBO and HBO Max on January 15. A show based on games usually gives a massive hike to their respective titles. The same thing happened to Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt after Cyberpunk Edgerunners and The Witcher Netflix Show were released. The Last of Us Part 1 PC, set for March, will also boost the sales figure.
