Snow is finally coming back to League of Legends and Summoner’s Rift! Riot just released a Twitter video showing the only map anyone plays on, covered in a winter festive glaze. The river is frozen, you can hear the jingle bells play and Baron Nashor is even wearing a little santa hat, just like he did last year.
Over the last few months, Riot has been steadily debunking all the “Rito plz” memes on the internet. Players have been asking for a few select features for years now, to radio silence on Riot’s end. Now we have: Yorick’s rework, solo queue in ranked, a replay system, physical Challenger rewards and now a winter map.
The Snowdown Showdown version of Summoner’s Rift first popped up in 2009, freezing the river and covering the whole ground in a flurry of white wonder. The map made brief appearances in 2010 and 2011, but disappeared after that. When the map got a facelift in 2014, players wondered if Annie would ever get to play in the snow again. After years of waiting, Riot has finally given us what we want.
There’s no news as to when this winter update will hit Summoner’s Rift, but expect it to hit the PBE some time this week.
