Summary: Struggling with ‘League of Legends’ new assassin-only mode, Hunt Of The Blood Moon? Here are some tips, along with the best champions to be the best sneaky sneak you can be.
The newest League of Legends featured game mode is the “Hunt Of The Blood Moon.” In this mode, Summoner’s Rift has turned into an assassin's paradise where you don’t worry about killing minions to get gold. Here’s exactly what you need to know to play smart and reach your assassin end-game fantasy.
The goal of HOTM is to get 350 points, which you can get three different ways.
Killing an enemy champion grants five points.
Spirits of the Blood Moon, which look like Kalista sentries, will travel around the jungle. Each spirit has six health and grants your team three points when killed. A max of eight will spawn at a time.
Rift Herald now has a kabuki mask on and is called the Demon Herald. Each one spawns every five minutes and grants the team that lands the killing blow 25 points.
There are also a ton of rules that aren’t in your regular League of Legends games.
All champions start at level three and get “Blood Pact.” Active items and Summoner Spells halve their cooldowns halved and while out of combat, you get mana regeneration, movement speed and your ultimate cooldown getting cut in half.
There are no outer turrets and after six seconds the inner ones fall as well.
Passive gold has increased, since you don’t get any money from killing enemy champions or monsters.
There are no lane minions.
If you kill three champions without returning to base, you get the “Demon Brand” buff. For 45 seconds you become invisible and gain a large amount of movement speed. Your next attack will deal 20 percent of the target’s health as true damage and the buff will go away.
Games are really short, lasting around 17 minutes on average. Don’t be afraid to experiment, it’s a fun mode after all.
You can’t buy any defensive items, though Zhonya’s Hourglass is still in the shop.
There are 20 champions in total you can play in this mode, but there are some that are more powerful than the rest. Here are my top picks for champions in “Hunt Of The Blood Moon.”
Shaco- This cheeky bastard does amazingly well in this mode. Set up your boxes to catch pesky enemies hiding from you, or turn invisible and throw a knife in their back. If you want to practice Shaco and his clones without ruining a full game of League for someone else, this is a great place to start.
Leblanc- The duplicator may have been nerfed, but she’s still one of the best burst mages in League . Get that “Demon Brand” buff and pop opponents before they even know you’re here.
Rengar- Also nerfed last patch, Rengar can still put in work during the Blood Moon. The lack of crowd control invulnerability doesn’t hurt as much when everyone is just as squishy as you.
Kha’Zix- See a trend of nerfed champions in this list? All of these burst style LoL champs were doing too much damage in regular games. Here, they will be glad to burst down anyone dumb enough to get in their way. Remember, his Q deals less damage so hopping in to burst an opponent and then hopping out might be harder than you remembered.
