Left 4 Dead 2's The Last Stand expansion is the first update the game has received in over eight years. Even though the game is 11 years old, the community is still very active. In fact, the update was produced by the L4D2 community instead of Valve. Seeing the love that fans have for the game, Valve allowed the community to add content and improve the game over time.
The Last Stand update comes with a bunch of new content, including new weapons, dialog, achievements, and “twenty new Survival Arenas, four Scavenge Arenas, and a Campaign based on The Lighthouse Survival map.” Moreover, the update can be downloaded completely for free.
Furthermore, Left 4 Dead 2 is free-to-play during this weekend and it is also 80% off on Steam. So, those who are interested can grab the game for just $2 before September 28.
The Last Stand content update was developed by a team of 30 L4D2 community members. The team was also supported by Valve and the entire project took over 11 months to complete.
The major highlight of the Last Stand Update is the brand-new campaign. The campaign itself is based on the game's original Survival map, but the objectives are different. You'll have to survive through hordes of zombies before reaching a lighthouse. Similarly, Scavenge Arena is a unique mode where players take control of either a survivor or an infected. Whoever collects the most fuel wins the round.
Left 4 Dead 2 also shared the changelog for the update, highlighting over 1,000 changes that have been made to the game, including brand-new weapons imported from CS:GO, new dialog, new animations, UI improvements, and bug fixes.
Since the update went live, Steam Charts shows an increase in current players enjoying the game. Left 4 Dead 2 is a beloved game and the fanbase is awaiting Left 4 Dead 3, but Valve has shot down rumors in the past. Speaking of '3', Valve needs to acknowledge that natural numbers don't stop at two. The company has yet to release a third sequel for Half-Life, Portal, Team Fortress, and, of course, Left 4 Dead.
