While there’s been some speculation The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild will not be a launch game for the Nintendo Switch, it seems that rumor has been confirmed by Target. According to the retailer, Breath of the Wild will not be releasing until June 13.
The release date can still be found on the Target listing for Breath of the Wild on Wii U.
Before we start getting all upset that the latest Zelda game isn’t coming as early as possible, let’s look at some facts first. June 13 is a Tuesday, which is the day most games get released. Nintendo tends to release games on Fridays, though, so that’s already one red flag that this could simply be a temporary placeholder.
Additionally, this is the Wii U version of the game. It could be possible that Nintendo will have Breath of the Wild ready to go for the Switch in March, and the Wii U version will be coming out later because it needs more development time. Seeing as how we don’t have a Switch version listed on Target, we can’t tell for sure on this.
That being said, inside reports suggest there will be a delay on Zelda . This seems to be one of the biggest games Nintendo has ever made, so the developer is sure to want to squash any and all bugs before releasing.
As for when we can expect some actual news out of Nintendo, expect to hear something at the January Switch event. This event will be revealing the release date of the new console along with the launch line-up of games. If Zelda isn’t announced, we can feel much more confident in this delay news.
So what do you think? Are you anticipating a delay announcement coming soon for the next Zelda game? Do you think this June release is only for the Wii U version? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
