In yesterday’s Nintendo Direct event, Nintendo announced that The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, one of the most popular titles in the franchise, is getting an HD remastered version and it's heading exclusively to Nintendo Switch.
Being developed in-house at Nintendo, the Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD will feature high-definition textures and intuitive motion controls for Switch. Developers designed it after the original Skyward Sword to let players experience how it was played on the motion-oriented Wii and Wii U consoles. Fortunately, the motion controls are entirely optional thanks to the remastered version’s new button-only control scheme. This allows the game to run smoothly on Nintendo Switch Lite which lacks a motion controller.
Nintendo is also releasing limited-edition Skyward Sword-themed Joy-Con controllers, which are sure to grab the attention of Nintendo collectors around the world.
As one of Nintendo’s most popular IPs, The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword is but the latest in a long list of titles remastered for modern platforms and audiences. Other Legend of Zelda games like Ocarina of Time and Majora’s Mask received similar treatment with remasters that brought the classic console titles to Nintendo 3DS.
Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword was originally released back in 2011 for the Nintendo Wii and Wii U, and is one of Square Enix’s most celebrated titles to date. Featured as the 16th mainstream entry in the franchise, fans love the title for its compelling plot, fun gameplay mechanics, and everything else in the Legend of Zelda formula that has allowed the franchise to endure for almost 35 years now.
