DC’s Legends of Tomorrow already has nine regular cast members, but according to Chief Creative Officer of DC Entertainment Geoff Johns, another “beloved superhero from the DC canon” will join The Legends team. Comicbook.com got the full scoop, and reporter Russ Burlingame specifically asked Johns about the future of Booster Gold.
“You’ll see [Booster Gold] very soon, and there’s talks about…there’s actually a lot of plans for Booster Gold, one of my favorite characters. But yeah, Booster Gold fans, you will definitely be happy with what we’ve got coming up in the years ahead,” Johns said, talking about movies, TV, and comics.
Johns’ statement came after fans speculated The CW would change up the entire cast for Season 2, which TV Line confirmed will not happen. Then, news came that this mysterious superhero’s agenda would serve as “a launching off point for Season 2.”
The question remains, who do the execs have in mind? Our best guess for this unnamed addition to Legends of Tomorrow would be Justice League member, Booster Gold. In the comics, he’s Rip Hunter’s father, a fellow time traveler. SyFy ordered a pilot episode based on Booster Gold back in 2011, but it was never picked up.
Blue Beetle could be another option, as he was referenced in episode 7 during a conversation between Kendra and Ray. Rumors from earlier this year suggested Arrow, Flash, and Legends of Tomorrow showrunner Greg Berlanti was working on a film featuring Blue Beetle and Booster Gold, but no new details about the project have been revealed since September.
All of this recent speculation is undermined by an August statement from Legends of Tomorrow Executive Producer Phil Klemmer who denied Booster would make an appearance in Season 1 during an interview with the Hollywood Reporter. “I wish I could tease a Booster thing but, you might have to wait a good long while at least on our show,” said Klemmer. “Perhaps Booster is being groomed for bigger things."
Legends of Tomorrow episode 9, “Left Behind,’ will pick back up with White Canary, Ray Palmer and Hawkgirl stuck in 1958 after Chronos stormed the Wave Rider and forced Rip Hunter to take off with only Firestorm and Captain Cold aboard.
The synopsis reveals White Canary will rejoin the League of Assassins. As Arrow fans know, there’s no League of Assassins without Ra's al Ghul. Matt Noble will return to reprise his role as The Demon's Head.
Ray, Sara and Kendra are shocked after they watch the Waverider fly off without them, leaving them stranded in the ‘50s. After waiting months for their teammates to come back, the three realize they must move on with their lives. Ray and Kendra bond as a couple but Sara decides to return to the League of Assassins and Ra’s al Ghul.
The next episode of DC’s Legends of Tomorrow airs March 31. The season finale, titled “Legendary” is currently filming and is set to air May 19.
