The DC’s Legends of Tomorrow season finale, where we’ll be introduced to a brand new Legend, is fastly approaching. Entertainment Weekly finally put a face to the hovering question mark Friday when an exclusive revealed that Patrick J. Adams ( Suits ) will portray “a beloved superhero from the DC canon.” But who is this superhero? We have a few guesses.
Even though fans are in denial, we’re fairly certain Booster Gold is NOT the mystery man (Thank you for crushing our dreams, TV Line ).The only description we have of this unnamed man is a “fun character the fans will love” whose mysterious agenda serves as “a launching point for season 2.”
Bleeding Cool is convinced Adams will be playing Alan Scott, the Golden Age Green Lantern and member of Justice Society of America. Jay Garrick's Flash and Alan Scott's Green Lantern are JSA fan-favorites, and Jay Garrick plays a large role in The Flash series that all the Legends of Tomorrow characters know of. Familiar with the multiverse, Alan Scott is an openly gay hero, which could be part of Greg Berlanti’s agenda. The Flash and Arrow are already two of the most diverse superhero casts we’ve ever seen. White Canary, who originated on Arrow, is openly bisexual.
Alan Scott is our top pick now that Booster Gold is officially off the table. CW was thinking about an Hourman series a few years back, so maybe they’ll bring the time-traveling android to life. There has also been talk that the real Jay Garrick could appear on Legends, which I must admit would be a very clever move. Since it’s been revealed Jay Garrick lied about his identity and is actually Zoom, Flash fans are dying to know the real story. Revisiting that origin on Legends would be a great way to get Flash and Arrow fans more invested in the series. We recently learned how White Canary survived Lian Yu on Arrow when the Legends traveled back to the 1950’s. Sara rejoined the League of Assassins, met Ra's al Ghul for the first time, and told him to send his younger daughter Nyssa to rescue her on Lian Yu in 2008. Could the same kind of time-traveling flashback crossover happen with Jay Garrick?
We won't know anything for sure until the Legends of Tomorrow season finale airs May 19. Who is the mystery man? If you have any theories, let us know in the comments below!
