Legendary Digital Studios is joining forces to with the creators of Life is Strange to bring Chloe Price and Max Caulfield’s story to the big screen.
The studio announced they’ve partnered up with the game’s creator Dontnod Entertainment and publisher Square Enix to adapt Life is Strange into a feature film. Greg Siegel, senior vice president of development and production for Legendary Digital Studios, released a statement about the studio’s latest project.
“ Life is Strange is one of those rare properties that combines incredibly developed characters and storylines with deeply engaging gameplay,” said Siegel. “It lends itself perfectly to live-action imaginings. We couldn’t be more excited to partner with Square Enix, DONTNOD Entertainment and dj2 to bring the world of Arcadia Bay to life in an exciting new way.”
Life is Strange follows the story of Max Caulfield, a teenage girl who discovers she can travel back in time after a strange encounter in her high school bathroom. Max was taking a photograph of a blue butterfly when her old best friend Chloe Price entered the bathroom with Nathan Prescott, an obnoxious rich kid with a dark secret.
Max hides in the bathroom and witnesses Nathan shooting Chloe. She then extends her hand to stop Nathan, but instead wakes up in her first class of the day. Max saves Chloe from Nathan the second time around, and learns of Chloe’s new best friend, Rachel Amber, who has gone missing. Chloe and Max search for clues about Rachel’s disappearance, digging up twisted secrets hiding in Arcadia Bay.
“We’re proud and excited to be working alongside Legendary to realise a new version of Arcadia Bay and Blackwell Academy complete with our rich cast of realistic, believable characters and memorable events,” Jon Brooke, VP Brand and European marketing at Square Enix, said in the news release. “Now that the first episode of the Life is Strange game is free to download on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Mac and PC, there’s never been a better time to play or to introduce a friend to the beautiful world of Arcadia Bay.”
