Developer and publisher Game Freak has just released Little Town Hero, their action-adventure RPG title, for the Xbox One. This news comes from its apparent listing appearance via the Microsoft Store on July 3. The Xbox One version of the title was supposed to drop earlier, June 23 to be exact. The game is also set to release for the PC and was released in advance, both digitally and physically for the PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch.
Set in an isolated village on the edge of the world, Little Town Hero follows the journeys and misadventures of the game’s titular and unnamed red-haired hero who dreams of someday leaving his quaint and quiet home town. In a place where the villagers are encouraged to stay, our hero’s world is turned upside down when a “Monster” appears in the village, shocking everyone since no one even knew that these types of creatures existed. Thanks to the protagonist’s excursions to the town’s nearby coal mines, he has found a mysterious red stone which helped him defeat the Monster. It is with this event that our courageous little hero will unravel the secrets of how the stones and the monsters came to be. This will then start his journey to the outside world and get that the adventures he truly seeks.
Little Town Hero plays out like your typical RPG. It puts specific importance on its turn-based strategy combat. Throughout the game, players will be able to meet other characters that will help them on their journey, each with their own unique strengths and abilities. Little Town Hero describes itself as unlike most RPGs where “there is no need to fight weak monsters repeatedly to level grind. Instead, you will need to have a good strategy to fight each boss monster one on one.” Reviews for the PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch versions, however, have been lukewarm at best. Most criticize its lackluster combat system and simplistic plotlines. Praise has been pointed towards its superb soundtrack composed by Toby Fox, most known for his work on UNDERTALE.
Little Town Hero is now out for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. It is set to release for PC via Steam later this month.
