The action platforming game Mable and the Wood will soon get a multiplatform launch. As announced by publisher Graffiti Games and developer Triplevision Games, the metroidvania title will be released for the Xbox One and the Nintendo Switch.
For those who haven’t heard of the fairly new game, Mable and the Wood is a Metroidvania where players hunt down massive beasts, and upon besting them, absorb and shapeshift into their forms and gain their powers. Players can use these new abilities to either destroy the world or save it. Players have the liberty to choose to go all out and kill everything in their way or control Mable in a way that avoids conflict. The game can be completed without killing anything, including bosses.
The game’s plot revolves around Mable’s resurrection at the hands of a strange cult that believes in an ancient prophecy where Mabel is destined to hunt down the great beasts, take their shape, and save the world. But what if they’re wrong? This is where your choices matter. Whether you kill the beasts or not, it forges a different path for you that allows for multiple endings.
Mable and the Wood’s gameplay is different from other Metroidvanias in that it does not limit itself to traditional movement schemes. In the game, combat is movement and each move you make can be utilized against your enemies, such as shapeshifting as a fairy and recalling your magical sword which slices enemies in its path. Other creatures that you can transform into are moles, which allow you to dig through terrain, and Medusa, which gives you the ability to stop time.
Mabel and the Wood provides a vast world that is yours for exploring, whether its a route to take you to your enemies or to avoid them, it can all be discovered. Lastly, all this is packaged in a cute, pixel-styled world with a beautiful original soundtrack accompanying it.
Mable and the Wood will launch for the Xbox One on September 18 and on the Nintendo Switch on October 10 for $14.99. It's now available for PC via Steam.
