Madden NFL 17 is set to release Aug. 23 and EA Sports has launched its Player Ratings database for fans (and NFL players) to check out how the developers divvy up individual stats and what the overall player ratings are.

And with every prelim inary ratings drop, fans want to know who garnered the coveted 99 overall rating in Madden 17 and this year only four players have received this honor.

The four 99 overall rating players in Madden 17 are cover athlete Rob Gronkowski, Luke Kuechly, Super Bowl MVP Von Miller and JJ Watt.

Here are some interesting tidbits from the first Madden 17 ratings reveal. Gronkowski is the only offensive player who received a 99 overall rating.

There are no quarterbacks who received a 99 rating. The most important position on the field, quarterbacks don’t normally receive a high rating when the launch ratings for Madden are released.

And in case you’re wondering, Aaron Rodgers of the Packers received a 96 rating while Tom Brady and Cam Newton received 94 ratings.

Madden 17 has focused on changing the way players run the ball. Whether it’s the running back or a receiver running after the catch, the mechanics are different from previous years and it makes it that more interesting that no running back has made the 99 overall rating club.

The closest running back to a 99 rating is Le’veon Bell of the Pittsburgh Steelers who received a 94 rating.

So what are your thoughts on Madden 17 ’s launch ratings? Do you think there should have been more 99-rated players? Let us know in the comments section below.
