It’s been a long time coming, but the first footage of Marco Polo Season 2 is here. The new trailer suggests a shift in dynamic. Kublai Khan promotes Marco Polo to the Order of the Mongol Knights. Kaidu, as history reveals, openly challenges Kublai’s rule as the King of the Mongol Empire. The great Khan struggles after executing his brother, Ariq, last season. The fact that Kublai killed his own brother as well as his favoritism toward Marco may sway the people of the Yuan Dynasty in favor of Kaidu.

Hundred Eyes warns Marco Polo there is a war brewing both outside and inside the empire’s borders as Kaidu says “I am the future Khan of Mongolia.” Tom Wu and Michelle Yeoh run around kicking ass between shots of cities burning and fire engulfed horses galloping across the battlefield.

After asking to lead the battle in the season 1 finale, Kublai banished Kaidu from Cambulac. As the ruler of the Chagatai Khanate (a division of the Mongol Empire), Kaidu waged war with Kublai for over 30 years and wasn’t successful.
