On your Paper Jam journey, you’ll be tasked with finding and retrieving various Paper Toads that have come to the Mushroom Kingdom. The reason? Toadette needs the manpower and minds to help build some of the awesome papercrafts you’ll be using.
In Mario and Luigi Paper Jam, each Paper Toad quest is different to keep it from being stale and monotonous.
And we’ve gathered how to complete all of the Paper Toad quests in Paper Jam but if you want a visual, here’s Zephiel810’s video. Our more in-depth guide is below it.
Sunbeam Plains (50 Paper Toads)
The first eight Paper Toads are rather simple to get. You’ll need to travel around the small area in the Mushroom Kingdom to either save them from Bowser’s minions or behind some sort of wall.
There are three Paper Toads that you’ll need to save in battle. Just defeat the minion holding them and you’ll get them to join you.
There’s one Paper Toad that is hiding behind a stone wall. Luckily, you have Paper Mario already so you can use him to slip through and grab the Toad.
Three Paper Toads are hiding in a fence post in the southern region of the area. Talk to them and not only will you get them to join you, but they’ll teach you a special move.
Some of the Paper Toad are actually very shifty and fast, faster than your team. This is where you’ll learn how to dash. You’ll use this to catch the one fast Paper Toad.
After defeating Petey Piranha you need to wrangle up 20 Paper Toads. This isn’t a timed mission but the stipulation is that if any of the 20 get past you and out of the village, you’ll have to retry.
Simply strife up and down until the Paper Toads gather in front of the stable and they’ll just stick there. Push them in and you’ll have completed the mission.
The next Paper Toad quest is actually given to you by the Lakitu and their newspaper business. Each area will have a Lakitu office that will assign you Paper Toad Quests. In the first area, you’ll have two different quests. Complete them both and you’ll have all 50 in this area.
Mission 1 (10 Paper Toads)
This is a simple search and retrieve mission that will net you 10 Paper Toads. There are two Paper Toads in the stable while there’s one that is hiding in the fence south of the stable.
One Paper Toad is hiding in front of the middle mushroom house and one actually inside the house.
There’s a Paper Toad hiding inside the Gear Store. If you talk to the vendor of the Gear Store, one Paper Toad will appear behind them.
The first Mushroom house will need for your team to dash and slide to catch this rogue Paper Toad.
The final two Paper Toads are outside where you’ll need to dash and slide to catch them.
Mission 2 (12 Paper Toads)
Another simple catch mission. The Paper Toad will run away from you and are too quick even while you’re dashing. The trick is to have them stack on top of each other, this will slow them down and that’s when you can catch them.
Doop Doop Dunes (15 Paper Toads)
The first quest is a recovery mission and has seven Paper Toads to rescue. All of them have been captured by Shy Guy so you’ll have to battle them get them back.
The catch is that this is a timed mission and will have you traveling through a few areas in Doop Doop Dunes. You get 20 minutes so be quick.
South of the starting point there is one Shy Guy holding a Paper Toad and one north of the starting point.
You’ll have three pillars of breakable rock. The middle pillar has the jump pad. Use your triple hammer attack twice on the first pillar and the middle one and just once on the final pillar. Use the jump pad on the ground to get up and the middle jump pad to get to the top of the third pillar. And then jump on the Shy Guy.
NOTE: if you need to reset, use the ! box nearby
Use jump pad to get on top of breakable blocks to reach a Shy Guy. You’ll need to dash on a catapult to send your team over the sand slide in the area to the East. Slide down the sand and keep an eye out, there are two Fly Guy that you’ll need to jump on.
Again, we have the Lakitu missions. The first will net you eight Paper Toad and is a puzzle. The Paper Toads are stuck within this stone structure and you’ll need to hammer them out. However, if you cause the stones to crush the Toad’s you lose. But you do have three chances to complete all of the puzzles.
The first Stone Prison, you’ll need to hit the left and then right rock. That should free the Paper Toad.
Knock out the small rocks first, then the left to free the first Toad and then right, right, left right.
Take out small rocks first. Right rock, left rock, middle rock.
Far right rock, then the rock to the left of it. This will free up one of the Paper Toads and then you can focus on the other.
Take out the middle big rock first. Then the far left rock.
Safe by a Sandslide (5)
This mission will have you at the bottom of a sandslide where debris will be coming at you. The Paper Toads are stuck to breakable rocks and you’ll need to use your super hammer ability to get them out.
Be wary of the bombs and other debris coming down. Just line yourself up with the rock and then hit the rock with Mario’s hammer to keep it in place and then use the super hammer.
Twinsy Tropics
In the third area of Paper Jam, there’s a Paper Toad hunt that you’ll need to complete. There are 20 Toads to find and are scattered throughout the village. You’ll need to use your new ability where you jump on top of each other’s shoulders to reach new areas and items.
There are two in front of the store, and one has been captured by a Koopa Troopa.
There are five Paper Toads inside floating bubbles that you’ll need your new ability to pop and reach all of them.
There’s a Paper Toad that can be caught using the dash and slide move and another you’ll have to battle for.
Five Toads appear in their bubbles but you’ll need to use your new move to force the bubble to rise and then you can quickly dash to the catapult.
In the south region, you’ll have to use your move to grab another Toad
And there’s two inside different rock walls that Paper Mario can reach.
Two bubbles on the bridge are too high for you to reach so stack yourselves and just walk to hit them.
The final Paper Toad is underneath a flip board. Need super hammer to flip it over.
The second Lakitu mission is called Fly Guy Patrol and you’ll have to go through a puzzle where Fly Guys are keeping Paper Toad’s hostage.
You’ll have to move between them without being seen while you grab 15 Paper Toads. This mission is all about patience and timing so take your time and it’ll be a breeze.
