A release date for Mass Effect: Andromeda has been leaked by Xbox Live Rewards, but it seems like it might just be a placeholder. According to the Rewards site, Mass Effect: Andromeda could be coming out March 31.
While I would normally write this kind of information off, there are a few clues that make this date seem somewhat legit. The biggest hint is that along with the Andromeda release date, the image also contains release dates for Injustice 2 and Sniper Ghost Warrior 3. These other two games have different release dates than the Andromeda date. If it was a simple placeholder, it seems all three games would be given the same date.
We also know that Andromeda will be coming some time in March. While EA and BioWare haven’t confirmed anything else, a late March date isn’t too surprising. This allows BioWare to squeeze out all the development time they can before release.
As for clues that this date isn’t legit, March 31 is a Friday. Yes, some games do get Friday releases (especially Nintendo games), but it’s much more common to see games come out on Tuesdays. The game also isn’t available to pre-order yet, meaning plans aren’t finalized in any way.
Probably the biggest nail in the coffin that this date is a placeholder is the tweet just sent out by Ed Boon, the creative director at NetherRealm. In the tweet, Boon says Injustice 2 isn’t coming out on March 28. If that date is not accurate, the Andromeda date also probably isn’t accurate.
To make a long story short, don’t believe the March 31 release date rumors for Mass Effect: Andromeda. We will probably get a release date soon, and it will probably be in March, but this isn’t how we will get that information. Wait until BioWare or EA makes an official announcement before getting too excited.
So what do you think? Do you agree that this is just a placeholder date? When do you think Mass Effect: Andromeda will actually release? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
