Mass Effect: Andromeda is one of the biggest games of 2017, but it won’t be releasing on the newly revealed Nintendo Switch console. BioWare producer Michael Gamble reaffirmed the game’s platforms on Twitter.
When probed about the prospects of Andromeda playing on the Switch, Gamble simply listed releases for the title on “PC, PS4 Neo [and] X1” as previously promised.
This response, however, comes at a very critical time. Nintendo’s portable home console just debuted within the last few hours, and BioWare are currently preparing for a major Mass Effect showcase on N7 Day. It’s also worth noting that the Switch may be on store shelves by the time Mass Effect: Andromeda is expected to release on March 21. If anyone’s still curious, though, the relationship between these events appears totally meaningless.
For those close to the franchise, however, disregard for Nintendo’s new console should come as little surprise. While a special edition of Mass Effect 3 happened to be a Wii U launch game, the port was widely regarded as a strange example of third-party support for the GamePad console. It’s been established that this series just doesn’t mesh with Nintendo. In fact, BioWare isn’t even on Nintendo’s official 3rd-party support list released yesterday.
The game’s publishers at Electronic Arts do intend to support the Nintendo Switch, just not with this series. No official game confirmations have been made at this time, but the system certainly appears suited for representation from EA Sports titles and other more appropriate brands.
As for Mass Effect: Andromeda, one should expect some character and ship-related details on Nov. 7, according to recent teases from Gamble himself. Aside from a brief preview at September’s PlayStation Meeting, next month’s showcase appears to be the title’s biggest one to date.
Mass Effect: Andromeda comes to PS4, Xbox One and PC in 2017.
