It's been quite some time since news about the Mass Effect trilogy getting remastered started surfacing online. While there was no official confirmation from EA or BioWare on the subject, leaks surely pointed at the remaster being in the works. Now, fans will not have to wait any longer for official confirmation as BioWare has announced that Mass Effect: Legendary Edition will be launching for PC, PS4, Xbox One, and both next-gen consoles. The remaster will feature "super-sharp resolution, faster framerates, and beautiful visual enhancements."
In the official blog post, BioWare also said that Mass Effect Legendary Edition "will include single-player base content and DLC from Mass Effect, Mass Effect 2, and Mass Effect 3, plus promo weapons, armors, and packs - all remastered and optimized for 4k Ultra HD." The developer also mentioned that the remaster will receive significant targetted enhancements on the PS5 and Xbox Series X, and will be available in Spring 2021.
It's important to note that the Mass Effect Legendary Edition is not a remake, but a remaster. This means that the remaster will retain all of the original Mass Effect mechanics like combat, movement, and story, but the only thing that's receiving a change is the graphics. BioWare says that the team's goal wasn't to create a full remake of the three games, but to modernize the originals with higher resolution textures, shaders, models, effects, and technical features.
If that wasn't enough, BioWare also confirmed that the developer is currently envisioning the next installment in the Mass Effect series. The developer said that it is still in the early stages of the project, and it cannot say much at this time. However, this is great news for Mass Effect fans who were afraid that the franchise was dead.
The Mass Effect games were some of my favorite modern RPGs that I played in the earlier days of my gaming journey. The games did a fantastic job of gripping players in their narratives and, at the same time, offered a satisfying action experience. Needless to say, I'm pretty excited to get my hands on the remaster as well.
Mass Effect Legendary Edition is scheduled to release in Spring 2021 for PC, PS4, Xbox One, PS5, and Xbox Series X.
