If you ever spent any time with City of Heroes, before the beloved MMORPG was shuttered in 2012, there’s a good chance you’ve at least briefly wondered whether or not NCsoft secretly hates one of its most passionate fan bases. City of Heroes never reached the same heights as World of Warcraft, or even smaller successes like Everquest , but it’s fanbase was easily one of the most passionate. Just look at the litany of spiritual successors that have popped up over the years. But NCsoft has largely refused to talk about City of Heroes since pulling support for the game and hasn’t exactly made it easy for fans to continue engaging with the franchise.
That five-year cold streak is finally ending this week. But the latest word from NCsoft is still probably going to disappoint most of the remaining CoH faithful.
According to a new trailer for Master x Master, the NCsoft-developed MOBA with a roster of heroes pulled from the publisher’s many properties, City of Heroes’ Statesman will be a playable character in MxM . Early hands-on time with the character suggests he’ll be quite tanky. But he’s no slouch in the damage department either. There’s no word on whether or not we can expect to see other City of Heroes NPCs join the Master x Master roster yet; however, it’s probably a safe bet if the community rallies around Statesman early in the game’s life.
To see the Statesman make his triumphant return, albeit in a game that will almost certainly be abandoned in a year or two, take a few minutes to check out the latest Master x Master trailer from NCsoft. Then head down to the comments section and let us know if you’re still hoping to see a City of Heroes revival at some point or if your interest in the game is beginning to wane.
Master x Master is in development for PC. The game will enter closed beta on April 6.
