Gilmore Girls fans hoping to see Sookie St. James return to Stars Hollow have some good news: actress Melissa McCarthy has confirmed that she will be joining the Netflix reboot of the series.
Contrary to previous reports stating that McCarthy would not be a part of the revival, the actress made the announcement on Ellen Friday. “We could not get those schedules to work, there was this whole thing,” McCarthy said. “Literally about an hour and a half ago we figured out that I am going to go back and do it.”
“I’m going to go back and do it,” McCarthy added. “[Series creator] Amy Sherman-Palladino is going to squeeze me in to do it. I’m very happy to go back to Stars Hollow.”
The series — which will have four 90-minute episodes — will see the return of Lauren Graham (Lorelai), Alexis Bledel (Rory), Scott Patterson (Luke), Kelly Bishop (Emily), Sean Gunn (Kirk), Keiko Agena (Lane), David Sutcliffe (Christopher), Danny Strong (Doyle), Vanessa Marano (April), Rose Abdoo (Gypsy) and Liza Weil (Paris). New characters that are slated to appear are a Peruvian couple, Berta and Alejandro, and Lane’s twins, Stevie and Kwan. Bunheads stars Sutton Foster and Stacey Oristano are also slated to appear in the Netflix revival.
Palladino told TVLine that the show’s protagonist, Rory, will be single when the show returns. “Our plan is to get as many of the lovely men back as possible,” said Sherman-Palladino. Matt Czuchry, Milo Ventimiglia and Jared Padalecki will return to play Logan Huntzberger, Jess Mariano and Dean, respectively.
