Metroid Prime: Federation Force is releasing for the Nintendo 3DS this August and Nintendo is finally giving players new information regarding the handheld online shooter.
The official Nintendo of America Twitter account posted some images showing what some of the amiibo can do when you tap them in Federation Force. The first amiibo functionality has to deal with the soccer mini-game within Federation Force, Blast Ball.
Tap the Mario or Bowser (or any) amiibo into your 3DS and you can deck out your Blast Ball mech with some character-specific paint. Take a look at the Mario and Bowser mechs in Federation Force.

However, with Federation Force taking place within the Samus/Metroid universe the Samus amiibo gives players something extra. Tap the Samus or Zero Suit Samus amiibo to give your Federation Force character a special upgrade.

The exact nature of the upgrade for each amiibo was not detailed but we will likely get more information on Metroid Prime: Federation Force as we get closer to the release date.
Metroid Prime: Federation Force is set to release Aug. 19.
