The first of several planned Minecraft mini-games has been released to the general public, via a series of free updates for the various console ports of the game, and it looks like Microsoft and 4J Studios already have extensive plans to support Minecraft ’s newly launched Battle mini game.
It was only last month that we learned about Microsoft and 4J Studios’ plan, to develop a variety of mini-games for Minecraft: Console Edition , but it looks like fans don’t have to wait any longer to get their hands on the brand new Battle Mode unveiled back in May. The first of several planned mini-games is now available as a free update for the various console (and portable) iterations of Minecraft currently on the market, complete with three maps for the community to fight over.
The first premium Battle Mode map pack is also available for purchase, priced at $2.99, and Mojang says several more map packs will debut in the future. Those who already know they’ll want more maps for Battle Mode can purchase the $10 Season Pass , which covers the first four map packs, or wait and buy each one individually for $3 a pop. Either way, Battle Mode and its first three maps will remain free for the entire console community.
Minecraft ’s Battle Mode is now available on PlayStation 3, PS4, PS Vita, Xbox 360, Xbox One and Wii U. The first map pack is also available for $2.99 with three others currently confirmed by Microsoft. All four can also be purchased together, via the Battle Mode Season Pass, for $9.99.
