Minecraft just got a new console update: It’s called version 1.25 on PS3 and PS4 and PS Vita, TU34 on Xbox 360, CU22 on Xbox One, and Patch 4 on Wii U. It’s rolling out now, so don’t be surprised if you see a new update automatically downloading next time you turn your system on. Sadly, the latest Minecraft console patch isn’t a feature-rich update by any means. While it adds support for a few additional skins, it’s mostly just a bug-fixer. The big update, the Combat Update, is likely still a long way away.

New Minecraft Console Update: This Is Not The Update You’re Looking For

It’s always an exciting moment when a new Minecraft update pops up on whatever version of the Console Edition you’re playing. Usually it involves a quick search online for what that update entails. And then, most of the time, it leads to a slight disappointment on discovery that it’s a small update focused on bugs. That’s the way it is this time. According to PlayStation Lifestyle, the new update adds trophies (and achievements on Xbox), a Story Mode skin pack, and fixed a bunch of issues. The fixes range from problems with potions to slime spawning bugs. All of it improves the game, but none of it besides the trophies and skins are all that exciting. It’s a basic stability update.

That’s not surprising—Minecraft 1.8.8, the huge update that brought us red deserts, Ocean Monuments, and tons of other major new features, is not that far behind us. For a little while, the PC version wasn’t that far ahead of the Console Edition, but the recent release of the amazing Combat Update changed all that. That update only launched officially a little over a month ago, though, so it’s going to be a while before it comes to consoles.

Still, the Combat Update is very much something to look forward to. Beyond revamping the basic mechanics of combat and mining—you can hold two things at once in the Combat Update, one in each hand!—it revamps Minecraft’s endgame. It makes the End, where the Ender Dragon lives, a much more fleshed out dimension, filled with End Cities, chorus trees, new monsters and even end ships and a rare artifact. It’s a hugely exciting addition to the game. And it’ll come to the consoles eventually. But not yet. For now, just bug fixes. Patience.
