There’s a new Minecraft update out there for PS4 and Xbox One players, and it’s weirdly hard to get any information about it. It’s a sneaky, quiet little update, and 4J Studios hasn’t posted a changelog for it. That’s weird, but it seems like there was only one change. That’s the new Star Wars skin pack bundle for Minecraft, which came out just in time for May the Fourth. So no, it’s still not the Combat Update. But hey, Star Wars skins! Hard to complain about that.
New Minecraft Update: Just Some Skins, Precious
It’s only fitting that the Star Wars skin pack bundle for Minecraft PS4 and Xbox One launched on May the Fourth; after all, it’s the official Star Wars holiday. It’s actually a bundle of three separate skin packs: Classic, Prequel and Rebels (nothing for Force Awakens yet!). That’s over 130 skins altogether. The pack is available for $7.99 on both Xbox One and PS4.
It’s weird that 4J Studios didn’t put out an official changelog for the update. After all, it had an official version number and everything (1.27 on PS4, presumably CU24 on Xbox One). Instead, the update just downloaded itself, without even an official announcement or press release about the new Star Wars skins. You had to be otherwise tuned in, or actively checking out Minecraft since yesterday, to notice it. Seems like a weird call.
Still, the skin packs for the Console Editions are a nice get, if you’re a skinchaser. Meanwhile, we’re still waiting for the big update from 4J Studios—the Combat Update, which rolled out to Minecraft PC back at the end of February and dramatically revamped Minecraft’s whole combat system and its end game. But it’s a big update, and that means it’ll be a while—probably months more. In the meantime, may the fourth be with you!
