Another Steam title reaches new heights of success, this time with a medieval multiplayer title.
Triternion’s Mordhau, released just a week ago, has already sold more than 500,000 copies. The developer has addressed this milestone in a Steam community blog, while also talking about some of the issues they faced during launch.
"Server performance was abysmal and reward drops such as Gold and XP, as well as unlocks were not functioning properly. We are still in the process of setting up new servers in regions that need them and as a result the Matchmaking can still be spotty," the post reads. "There’re also some other Matchmaking related bugs that prevent parties from joining the same game, or BR lobbies to populate very slowly, but we're on top of that. All things considered; the majority of launch issues have been resolved. As for compensation of the lost Gold and XP. We have not forgotten about it and will be shipping it via the next patch."
As stated, even though the game has sold copies like hotcakes, it has been plagued with a huge number of issues, the most glaring of which is people not receiving gold and XP. This is absolutely integral to playing the game, as it is based on a progression system. That’s not to speak of massive rubber-banding in some places where there’s still no nearby dedicated servers, which has put me off from buying it for right now.
Triternion was also quick to show off some more maps currently in development, which have concept art and screenshots. These can be found here.
As for the near future, the developer was keen to state its initiative in developing ranked and competitive modes, which should incentivize skilled players to play better. In the same paragraph, they also admit to being terrible with timeframes.
It would seem that despite Mordhau's troubles, there are lots of players who find enjoyment in it. The game reached a peak of 60,000 concurrent players yesterday, which is amazing for a game like this. Hopefully Triternion will keep up their promises of new content and various solutions to the issues at hand so that more people will get to enjoy the game.
Mordhau is now available on PC through Steam.
