Sony didn’t have many new games on display at the company’s E3 2017 press conference, instead focusing on trailers for games that have already been announced (or in some cases, have even been made before). However, one of the newest announcements revolved around a tiny mouse on the PlayStation VR.
Moss is an action/puzzle adventure where players must help Quill, a tiny white mouse, make it through the pages of a storybook. Interestingly enough, players will be acting as their own character who can help Quill while also manipulating the area around her.
“In Moss, players can reach out, touch, and interact with the environment while guiding Quill through her journey. As a character within the world, players will work together with Quill to solve puzzles, overcome obstacles, and conquer any danger that comes their way,” said Danny Bulla, co-founder and design director of Polyarc, in a press statement. “As gamers, we’ve been conditioned for years to hold a gamepad in our laps when playing games, letting our thumbs and fingers do the controlling. It has been a great experience to create an immersive game that encourages players to reach into and interact with a tactile world.”
Because Moss is a VR game, this means the player will be monitored by the PlayStation camera. While the camera will track your motions and inputs for the game, it will also allow for the game to interact with and recognize you as a character.
“Developing a game like Moss has been an inspiring challenge. We have the chance to connect the players to the world and characters in an entirely new and exciting way. For example, Quill can see you and she reacts to your movements as well as the environments you interact with,” said Chris Alderson, co-founder and art director of Polyarc. “Our goal is to let the player’s senses teleport them to a world where the characters and environments truly feel alive.”
Moss will release on the PSVR this holiday season. If you find yourself at E3 this year, there is a playable demo in the Sony booth.
