Narcos Season 2 premieres Sept. 2 on Netflix, and we finally have our first official look at what Pablo Escobar is up to while on the run.
Season 1 covered over a decade of Escobar’s life -- from the time he’s first introduced to cocaine until he escapes from prison. Past statements from the series’ executive producer (and a strong hint in the release date teaser) confirm Escobar’s death is imminent. Until that happens, we’ll also get an inside look at the fall of the Medellín cartel and the subsequent rise of the Cali cartel.
In addition to Pablo Escobar himself, the official Netflix photos show his wife and mother, DEA agents Javier Peña and Steve Murph, along with President César Gaviria. But it’s not just the police Escobar is hiding from, it’s also the Cali cartel, which desperately wants revenge.
It will be interesting to see what story Netflix chooses to use for Escobar’s death, since there are a number of conflicting reports. Some believe the bullet that killed him was his own, others believe it belonged to the police and a some claim it was a member of Los Pepes (a vigilante group formed by Escobar opposition) disguised as law enforcement.
