NBA 2K17 is the next big game to cash in on the Chinese New Year hype, so what’s 2K Sports doing to celebrate Year Of The Rooster? This Twitter tease from 2K marketer Ronnie Singh doesn’t tell us much, but some sort of update is on the way.
As shown in the social media post below, Singh has released a graphic of a rooster with the NBA 2K17 logo under it. Above the image, he playfully asks fans “what does it mean?” The studio is teasing something alright. They just aren’t ready to spill the beans.
Speculation about the tweet has already begun amongst the title’s online community. Some have suggested that there might be some sort of limited introduction of the Chinese Houston Rockets legend, Yao Ming. 2K is far from averse to featuring classic athletes in MyTeam packs, so additions like that aren’t out of the question. Hypothetically, there could be some sort of challenge associated with the new card.
Another highly discussed possibility are new uniforms and socks featuring the displayed rooster insignia. After all, 2K did add limited holiday uniforms for all 30 roster teams at the end of December. Both working theories sound good to us.
NBA 2K17 is far from the first game to offer a show of support for the Chinese New Year. Probably the most high-profile example is the case of Overwatch. Earlier this week, Blizzard’s shooter was infused with an onslaught of fresh skins and cosmetics themed around the occasion.
NBA 2K17 is available now on PS4, Xbox One, PC, PS3 and Xbox 360.
