NBA 2K18 has an Early Tip-Off Edition, and that means you can start playing the game today provided you purchased the correct version from a physical or digital store. On the eve of launch, 2K has tweeted the exact times different versions of the game will be playable. If you’ve got a disc version, you can start the fun three hours ahead of time.
The tweet above confirms the following details:
- Physical : Sales can begin at 9 p.m. local time Sept. 14
- Digital : Downloads unlock at 12 a.m. EDT Sept. 15
Especially if you want to go digital, it’s still possible to get in on the early tip-off party right now. The best part is, it doesn’t cost any extra money. Stores like Amazon, Best Buy and Wal-Mart are still selling applicable codes for $59. Those who want a physical version may need to resort to an in-store pickup option, and that means your game might not be ready tonight.
Of course, the early tip-off perk is also available to those who pre-ordered the game’s various special editions including the $99 Legend Edition and $149 Legend Edition Gold. Their bonuses also include a large purse of VC and in-game Shaq-themed items including shoes, jerseys, shirts and a championship ring. Physical versions also come with a poster, cards and stickers.
By getting in on the early tip-off party, fans gain access to the entire game at least four days before the title’s public release on Sept. 19. That means it’s possible to start sculpting your MyTeam legacy and spending time in The Neighborhood social space long before anyone else has the chance to do so. Servers will go live as soon as the above mentioned time threshold has been reached.
Of course, as this is meant to be a festive weekend for the most dedicated NBA 2K18 fans, we wouldn’t expect the surprises to stop there. 2K staff generally likes to use these next few days to host contests and events for its most passionate followers to thank them for their support. If you want to get in on the action, there are only a few hours left.
NBA 2K18 is available for early tip-off on most platforms later today. It officially comes to PS4, PS3, Xbox One, Xbox 360, Switch and PC Sept. 19.
