A new Code Vein trailer debuted over the weekend, during the public half of the 2017 Tokyo Game Show, featuring new gameplay and story details from Bandai Namco’s next hardcore action RPG. And it sounds like players will be stepping into some particularly dire circumstances when Code Vein debuts early next year.
The new Code Vein trailer packs an impressive amount of information into a video with a two and a half minute runtime. In it, we see the game’s protagonist journeying with a teacher or mentor who seems to be part of Vein’s security service. The footage appears to be from early segments of the Code Vein campaign, before players get their own partners to lead into battle, and features several of the warped, badly-mutated enemies we’ll see throughout the game. We also see a few of the potential allies we’ll meet along the way, along with an early boss encounter. But that’s not what most fans are going to be excited about.
The latest trailer from Bandai Namco also provides more backstory on the city of Vein and the Revenants (“normal” vampires) we’ll meet in Code Vein. We knew blood was in short supply, since humans have all gone the way of the dodo, but things are so bad at the game’s onset that vampires are hunting for individual droplets (called Blood Beads). And there are signs that the waning supply, combined with their own thirst, is forcing the few vampires who haven’t lost their minds to turn on one another. Those battles between beings with access to blood magic (known as Gifts in CV ) look like they’ll unfold in suitably epic fashion when the game heads to PC and consoles.
