While we know for sure that Nintendo is making a new console, and we have some rumors about both Sony and Microsoft updating their current consoles, we have no idea when these new machines will be released. It seems that retail giant GameStop does know, and says they will be released in the near future.

This information comes from an investor report found on the GameStop website. One slide of the presentation given on April 14 states that GameStop’s relevance will continue to grow thanks to physical sales.

The specific line given in the presentation is as follows: “New innovation, such as Virtual Reality and new consoles, is expected to accelerate category growth in the near future.”

Not to overanalyze this comment, but GameStop has mentioned multiple consoles for a reason. Later in the presentation, a flow chart showed GameStop anticipating new consoles to be a significant source of income over the next two years.

Adding fuel to the new console rumor flames, GameStop also revealed it isn’t giving away all the information it has. During a Q&A session, a representative was quoted as saying "As usual, we know more than we can share," according to GameSpot.

With all of these rumors flying around, it seems just a matter of time before Sony and Microsoft reveal whatever updates they may have to the PS4 and Xbox One. It’s highly likely Nintendo will pull back the curtain on whatever it has at this year’s E3 in June. It wouldn’t be all that surprising to see Sony and Microsoft follow suit.

Like any rumor, this is nowhere near a sure thing. GameStop could simply be referring to the HTC Vive, Oculus Rift or PlayStation VR as new consoles, lumping them in with the Nintendo NX. This seems unlikely, given GameStop has mentioned VR separately from the new consoles several times, but it’s still a possibility.

As for any official comments from Microsoft and Sony, they both have remained quiet so far. It’s likely we will not hear from either company until they are ready for a full announcement, if one is even coming.

So what do you think? Are you excited to learn about new consoles getting released? Would you rather Sony and Microsoft focus on the consoles they already have out? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
