A month ago, Amazon Games announced a partnership with Disruptive Games to publish the latter’s “online multiplayer action-adventure game based on a new IP.” Details were scarce then, save for concept art shared by Disruptive Games showing off the beginnings of this new, unannounced title. Now, it seems several job listings are describing the foundations of this new title, and it may be one you’ve heard a thousand times already.
As previously highlighted by another outlet, this new, unannounced title is, perhaps at its core, a free-to-play first-person shooter built with a live-service model in mind. The descriptions come from several job listings posted on the Disruptive Games website. The Senior Producer role, in particular, highlights this message which points to all the new hirings toward this unannounced project:
Disruptive Games is a veteran development studio specializing in multiplayer and online experiences. We are an independently owned studio working on a AAA, fully-funded title with original IP!
A separate listing for the Lead Audio Designer position highlights “FPS, weapon design, and multiplayer experience” as one of the bonus points. While this can still be somewhat debatable, the fact that first-person shooters are brought up should be a good indicator of what genre this title will be.
Another highlight is the listing for the Senior VFX Artist role that noted one of the responsibilities as “build visual effects using UE5’s Cascade or Niagara editor, the Material editor, and the Blueprints system.” We can take this as confirmation that this new unannounced title will be developed in Unreal Engine 5. Another line in the responsibilities for the same role also specifies “sci-fi effects,” meaning that the game will probably be set in a science fiction setting.
With this new information, we can slowly pierce together this upcoming title to be a free-to-play first-person shooter with sci-fi leanings, built on Unreal Engine 5, and having live-service models in place. It’s worth noting that this is not the first shooter that Amazon Games is taking on as a publisher; Relentless Studios’ ill-fated Crucible was scrapped after entering closed beta following its initial release. It will be interesting to see how Amazon Games will tackle this new free-to-play project while avoiding the pitfalls of its predecessor.
