Almost four years after it was initially released, publisher 2K Games and developer Firaxis Games will be introducing a new Season Pass for their turn-based 4X game Sid Meier’s Civilization VI. Called the “New Frontier Pass”, the new season pass will bring loads of content to the strategy game and will run from May 21 until March of 2021.
The New Frontier Pass offers a total of eight new civilizations, nine new leaders, and a variety of new gameplay content which includes six new game modes. These will be made available every other month until March of 2021.
The content included in the season pass is quite expansive. First off, the Maya & Gran Colombia Pack adds two new civilizations and leaders, a new game mode, new City-States, Resources, and Natural Wonders. This will be available on May 21. The Ethiopia Pack, which will be released in July, will include one new civilization and leader, a new game mode, a new District, and two new Buildings. The other packs, which are still unnamed, will include the remaining content and will be released in September and November 2020 and January and March 2021. For a much more detailed breakdown, a complete list can be found on Civilization VI’s website. Also, it is important to note that some of the game modes and additional leaders require either the Gathering Storm or Rise and Fall expansion to be playable, so that’s something to keep in mind before investing in the New Frontier Pass.
With that being said, the New Frontier Pass will cost $39.99. Packs can also be purchased individually. Something else important to keep in mind regarding this huge update is that new maps, scenarios, and balance changes are also set to come during the following months, regardless of whether you purchased the New Frontier Pass. Lastly, two new Persona Packs in the form Teddy Roosevelt and Catherine De Medici will also be included for those who will purchase the New Frontier Pass. These will be included in the second add-on pack.
Sid Meier’s Civilization VI is available now for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, Mac, Linux, iOS, and PC via Steam.
