When’s the next Overwatch event? It’s been nearly two months since Year Of The Rooster, and I’m getting bored. The rest of the masochists addicted to competitive games probably wouldn’t mind a new event, either. I want to give Blizzard my money and buy more Loot Boxes, but I already have every skin I could ever want from the base set.
So, I’ve decided to spend my extremely important time guessing at what the next Overwatch event could be. St. Patrick’s Day or Easter is off the table, since we know that Blizzard wants to prove that Overwatch is a “different” kind of game, but everything else is fair game. That leads to a few choices, ranging from real-world holidays to made up events happening in the Overwatch universe.
Unity Day- My money would be on this Overwatch universe holiday as the next official event. For those of you out of the loop, Unity Day celebrates the joining of omnics and humans in the city of Numbani. It’s a day celebrating peace, which is why it would be a perfect time for something to go terribly wrong. We already know that Doomfist has stolen his gauntlet back and it’s up to Orisa and Efi to stop him, that sounds like it would be a pretty fun Brawl.
April Fool’s Day- Riot goes nuts with releasing skins for League Of Legends for April Fool’s Day. The developers are allowed to come up with the craziest concepts they can think of and justify them by calling them jokes. Overwatch skins can be outlandish and over the top, I’m looking at you Jester Junkrat, but there are very few truly absurd ones. This could be a chance to try something new and take skins into a direction fans have never seen before. Piggy Bank Roadhog? Laser Pointer Symmetra? Anything is possible if Blizzard pushes the envelope just a little further.
Cinco De Mayo- Sombra celebrates the only way she knows how, with an Overwatch event. We already have Mariachi Reaper, I feel like Roadhog and Reinhardt should totally join in on the band with their own instruments.
