Subway Surfers is one of those endless runner games on mobile that, surprisingly, is still a thing even to this day. The game was considered as the most downloaded game on the mobile platform between the years 2012 to 2019. Just this August, Subway Surfers breached three billion downloads worldwide.
Subway Surfers appears to be upping the ante as developer SYBO Games entered into a partnership with the NFL Players Association and OneTeam Partners. Under this collaboration, Subway Surfers players get to unlock and play as some of the NFL’s most famous runners, six of them in fact. Beginning on September 10 and covering a span of three weeks, the six players are going to be unlockable and playable. It’s not just their likeness, but also their names, numbers, and images.
If you’re wondering, the six players are:
- Tom Brady (Quarterback, Tampa Bay Buccaneers)
- Lamar Jackson (Quarterback, Baltimore Ravens)
- Patrick Mahomes (Quarterback, Kansas City Chiefs)
- Odell Beckham Jr. (Wide receiver, Cleveland Browns)
- Dak Prescott (Quarterback, Dallas Cowboys)
- Saquon Barkley (Running back, New York Giants)
In addition to the players, there are also in-game hoverboards that are based on the six players and offered as unlockable prizes.
In a press statement, SYBO Chief Commercial Officer Naz Amarchi-Cuevas said that the collaboration marks another milestone for the company especially as the game has reached three billion downloads. She went on to say that “the integration of NFL stars, combined with our premium gaming experience and overall digital content will galvanize gaming and sports fans alike.”
For the NFL Players Association, Interim President Steve Scebelo revealed that they are more than “excited to offer both mobile gamers and football fans alike a truly one-of-a-kind experience by personifying NFL players in the world’s most downloaded endless runner game.” He added that Subway Surfers is a natural playing field for NFLPA given the game’s storyline, monthly visit to different cities, and the diverse attributes.
Finally, OneTeam Partners Chief Product Officer Henry Lowenfels shared that there is no question that this unique partnership that resulted in “bringing players to mainstream mobile games like Subway Surfers is an exciting enhancement of the fan experience."
Subway Surfers was initially conceived as an animated short film before becoming a mobile game in 2012. It is available to download on Android and iOS devices.
