The first big game delay of the 2017 holiday season has been announced. Sadly, those of us who enjoy vibrant, colorful JRPGs will have to wait an extra two months to get our hands on Ni no Kuni 2: Revenant Kingdom.
Word of the delay comes as a bit of shock, in part, because the game’s launch date was only announced a month ago. Bandai Namco preceded its annual E3 appearance by announcing plans to release both the PlayStation 4 and PC versions of the game on Nov. 27. But something in the last six weeks has clearly shaken the publisher’s confidence in that timeline, leading to today’s delay announcement. The good news is that we won't be asked to wait all that much longer. Bandai Namco says Ni no Kuni 2: Revenant Kingdom should be ready for consumers in mid-January, just two months removed from the game’s original launch window.
The announcement also featured a brief statement from Akihiro Hino, CEO and President of LEVEL-5 Inc, who apologized to Ni no Kuni fans for the unexpected delay.
“We have decided that more development time is required in order to deliver the full Ni no Kuni II experience to our fans,” he said. “I deeply apologize to those who have been looking forward to the game's release. Please rest assured, however, that we will continue to strive to provide a deep and satisfying single player experience that our fans can look forward to enjoying.”
