Square Enix announced more collaboration content is coming to NieR: Automata, during the annual Jump Festa convention in Tokyo, and Dragon Quest is the latest SE property to be tapped for NieR: Automata material. There’s even a trailer for the Cypress Stick, a recurring weapon in the Dragon Quest franchise, to let fans see how it looks in the upcoming Nier sequel.
We’ve known for weeks that Final Fantasy XV would be represented in NieR: Automata, via the Engine Blade, but it turns out that isn’t the only Square Enix IP we’ll see in NieR: Automata when the game hits PC and PS4 next year. Dragon Quest, one of the most popular gaming franchises in Japan, will also be represented in the game. And one of the DQ series’ most recognizable weapons will carry its torch in NieR: Automata.
According to Square Enix, the Cypress Stick will make the jump from Dragon Quest to NieR: Automata when the game debuts next year. We don’t have details on its stats but, in a nod to the franchise it was pulled from, treasure chests in NieR will look like their counterparts from Dragon Quest anytime the Cypress Stick is equipped. There’s no word on whether or not the Cypress Stick will get its own Weapon Story like the Engine Blade.
For an early look at the NieR: Automata x Dragon Quest collaboration content, take a few minutes to watch the new trailer shown at Jump Festa 2017.
